Week 7 ORC: The Tile

The countdown is officially begun. It is week 7 of the One Room Challenge. Okay, it is the END of week 7. I’m a little late on my blog post this week. We are running behind on our schedule for our One Room Challenge Mudroom/Bathroom. I have faith we will finish strong. We had a few setbacks and delays like all good home reno projects usually have. We are back on track with no time to spare thanks to my hardworking husband that can fix it all.

This week we finally got to the good stuff. I partnered with my favorite place to get tile: The Tile Shop. They are local to me, just down the street in fact. However, they are a nationwide retailer so you can find their products near you or online! I can’t say enough about the friendly staff and how helpful they are. They have a huge selection of ceramic, porcelain, marble and concrete tile. It was so easy to walk in the store and find something I loved.

I immediately was drawn to the Laura Ashley collection. The floor tile I chose was actually the inspiration for the entire space. The tile is Laura Ashley Mr Jones Midnight Matte. It comes in several color ways. Blue and white was my favorite.

For the shower wall tile we choose Pillow White Wall Tile in 3x6.

for an accent color and tile in the shower. The shower floor we opted for the always adorable and fun Penny Tile in Sky Blue

We are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. To speed things along we opted to use the Wendi Fundo Primo shower base. The shower floor base is waterproof and mold resistant, it's also pre-sloped and features a centrally positioned drain. The design eliminates the time consuming steps traditionally involved in typical mortar bed, semi pre-fabricated sheet or liquid membrane system installations.

My husband who does all our tile work said he loved this product and it definitely saved him time.

Once that was installed, we moved on to the walls in the shower. Next up the floors. Similar to our other tile projects we once again used Blanke Permat Underlayment. Again, this is another great product from The Tile Shop. This underlayment offers crack isolation, strength and compression support.

I’m seriously thrilled about how great the floors look. This is the perfect floor for that colorful cottage look I love so much.

Now off to grout, finish wallpaper, and work on that custom built in! More on that next week in the final BIG REVEAL. Don’t forget to check out the other ORC guest participants here.
